 YOUR HOSTS - Hazel & Simon 

Hazel, who was originally from the UK and who has travelled extensively worldwide, fell in love with the stunning scenery and amazing beaches of the “Land of the Long White Cloud” on her first visit to New Zealand in 1990.  After many annual holidays “down under”, she decided to  finally emigrate to New Zealand and to build a purpose-built, quality English farmhouse-style property that could provide luxury accommodation for local and international visitors in the fabulous New Zealand countryside.  

So in 2003, Hazel sold her barn conversion in the UK and and brought with her, her much loved Multi-Champion palomino showing mare, Legend Star Dynasty (Star) and also Star’s home-bred daughter Moonhaze  Summer Solstice (Velcro), together with her trusty old Land Rover, her Aga range cooker and 276 boxes of household goods.  Within one month of her arrival, she had purchased the perfect 6 acre block, nestled in rolling countryside and started planning the design of her dream home and such was the beginning of Moonhaze Lodge Countrystay – Home of Moonhaze Arabians.

Luckily, soon after her arrival Hazel met Simon, a sporty but extremely laid-back Kiwi guy who showed keen interest in her vision for the future.  So, together with Simon’s hard work and support, Hazel has finally achieved her dream of completing this luxurious Countrystay so that their guests can relax and enjoy and share their amazing Kiwi lifestyle.  

Hazel has always worked in a professional environment and her management, administration, customer service and excellent people skills are now put to good practice handling the bookings and generally looking after the guests to ensure that their stay at Moonhaze Lodge is a memorable one.  

The combination of Simon’s skill in pouring a complimentary glass of chilled New Zealand wine and then quickly flicking the top off a cool Steinlager beer to welcome visitors on arrival, together with both of their helpful personalities and great sense of humour, ensure that their guests are given a warm friendly welcome and are well cared for, whilst respecting their need for privacy and space.
